Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG)

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a catechin which is an AMPK activator and has strong antioxidant activity, helping to neutralize the damaging free-radicals in the body. EGCG is predominantly found in green tea and responsible for most of tea's health benefits.

Evidence supports its activity in reducing inflammation, lowering high blood pressure and preventing heart disease through multiple pathways. Of all the ingredients, it also has a very visible effect on skin improvement, enhancing the body's production of natural moisturizing factors, reducing damaging crosslinking of collagen, and reducing melanin production for smooth, well-hydrated, even skin.

Though EGCG is predominantly found in green tea, it also exists in small amounts in other foods, such as other teas, cranberries, strawberries, blackberries, kiwis, cherries, pears, peaches, apples, avocados, pecans, pistachios, and hazelnuts.
